Elton Anthony, Man Who Beat 1010 WINS' Anchor Brian Carey, Sentenced

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The man who brutally beat 1010 WINS anchor Brian Carey in his apartment in September was sentenced Monday.

Elton Anthony, 49, admitted his role in the attack in Manhattan Supreme Court and received a sentence of five years in prison with five years post release supervision, 1010 WINS reported.

The judge also issued an order of protection good until 2026 -- barring Anthony from contacting Carey.

The last thing Carey, 52, said he remembers is an agitated Anthony entering the apartment with pizza and iced tea. "There was no argument, nothing," Carey told 1010 WINS' reporter Mona Rivera in February.

"The attack itself I don't remember at all," Carey said of the Sept. 9 beating. Carey told Rivera that he was lucky to be alive. "I was told that I almost died, and they didn't know the first night whether or not I was going to make it."

Carey returned to the air in February.

The popular news anchor said his focus is on his job and his loved ones.
