Prosecutors: Elmwood Park, N.J. Woman Sold Fake Divorce Papers

ELMWOOD PARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- An Elmwood Park, New Jersey woman has been charged with selling fraudulent divorce papers.

Anastasya Varvaryuk, 29, was charged with practicing law without a license and forgery, according to the Passaic County Prosecutor's office.

Prosecutors alleged Varvaryuk sold fraudulent judgments of divorce to unsuspecting clients, and claimed the judgments were valid.

She allegedly forged the signature of a New Jersey Superior Court judge on the documents, prosecutors said.

Varvaryuk worked out of Empire Multi Services on Main Avenue in Clifton, New Jersey, prosecutors said. She does not have a license to practice law, and her judgments are not legal, prosecutors said.

It was not clear how many couples Varvaryuk allegedly tricked.

Practicing law without a license and forgery are each punishable by three to five years in prison, prosecutors said.

The investigation into Varvaryuk's alleged crimes continued late Friday.
