ELIZABETH, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- An Elizabeth, New Jersey man was in police custody late Sunday, after he allegedly wielded a gun and prompted an off-duty police detective and prompted the detective to fire his own weapon.

Luis Orlando Ruiz-Chicaz, 21, was charged with aggravated assault by pointing a firearm and two related weapons offenses, according to a news release from acting Union County Prosecutor Grace H. Park.

Police were called around 8:30 p.m. Saturday to a restaurant at Fifth Street and Broadway in Elizabeth and found the off-duty detective and the suspect at the scene, prosecutors said.

During an interaction outside the restaurant, the detective realized the suspect was armed, prosecutors said. The detective fired two rounds from his service weapon, prosecutors said.

It was not believed anyone was struck in the shooting, prosecutors said. The detective arrested Ruiz-Chicaz, and a loaded revolver was recovered, prosecutors said.
