Eli Manning Addresses Contract On WFAN, Wants Deal Done As Soon As Possible

NEW YORK (WFAN) -- Eli Manning doesn't want his contract hanging over the Giants' season.

The veteran quarterback told WFAN's Boomer Esiason and Craig Carton on Tuesday that he wants to get a deal done and doesn't want to negotiate once the regular season starts.

The Giants open the 2015 schedule on Sunday night in Dallas.

"No updates. There's been some talking, but my focus is still on the Cowboys. I'm not going to make that a distraction," Manning said.

"I'm not a big fan of negotiations going on during the season," Manning added. "I'm hoping if this thing is going to get done, it's going to get done very quickly. I would think both sides would want to do it that way and not have these talks continue on."

A lot has been made of Manning playing out the final year of his current contract, but the two-time Super Bowl MVP has made it clear he intends to finish his career with Big Blue. The Giants' front office has echoed that sentiment, but thus far the sides have been unable to hammer out an extension.

Manning spoke about several other topics during the interview, including the Giants' sputtering offense, the showdown with the Cowboys, the potential return of veteran wide receiver Victor Cruz, DirecTV commercials and the recent decision in the "Deflategate" saga.
