81-Year-Old Man Fights Off Alleged Would-Be Robber In Selden

SELDEN, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A Selden man accused of attempting to rob an elderly man at an ATM got more than he bargained for on Tuesday.

According to Suffolk County Police, the 81-year-old man was retrieving cash from an ATM at Independence Plaza on Route 25 in Selden around 6:10 p.m. when a man grabbed the money and punched him.

Police said the victim fought back and the suspect fled on foot without any money.

A short time later, police located a person matching the suspect's description on Wyandotte Street in Selden. Paul Rysanek, 21, was arrested and charged with third-degree attempted robbery, police said.

Rysanek was scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Thursday.
