Eddie C: Warthen Talks Harvey, Noah And The Mets' Pitching Staff

Monday was yet another Matt Harvey day, as the ace threw batting practice for the second time this spring. But as pitching coach Dan Warthen stressed, the Mets' rotation goes much deeper than just Harvey.

Warthen appreciates having Harvey aboard once again to lead the way, and also to add some confidence and swagger to a staff that is seemingly blending together nicely early on.

Noah Syndergaard has been paired frequently with Harvey during this camp. Trying to emulate some of Harvey's focus, determination and poise would not be a bad thing, and Syndergaard has seemed to respond to it very well. Warthen was asked if he's seen growth from the tall Texan.

Zack Wheeler -- still my choice to be the opening day starter for the Mets  -- has really refined his delivery and is also looking impressive in the early stages.

Harvey has thrown quite a few curveballs thus far while maintaining steady velocity and location with his fastball. The fastball-curve combination is one that works quite well for him.

We all know that Harvey wanted to pitch last season, but holding out until this spring was the best possible scenario for all the parties involved.

And was Harvey ready late last season? Well, Warthen thinks he was, but he's very happy to have him ready to go later this week, and also the first week of April.

Harvey will match up against David Price of the Tigers in Port St. Lucie on Friday, the first home game for the Mets at Tradition Field after two on the road.
