MTA Spokesperson: East Side Access Project Stalled By Amtrak

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The East Side Access project is delayed once again.

As WCBS 880's Sophia Hall reported, the construction work planned at the busy Harold Interlocking in Queens to help build the East Side Access project, which will connect the Long Island Rail Road to Grand Central Station, has been delayed for at least a few more months.

An MTA spokesperson said the delay is because Amtrak, which shares the rail junction, has not provided the necessary employees.

"Amtrak, they're trying hard, they're working on a lot of big projects of their own, but we all recognize the need for better coordination and communication here because we all share the same goal: trying to improve the infrastructure," said spokesman Adam Lisberg.

In a statement, Amtrak said they continue to work with the MTA and must balance the needs of commuters, aging infrastructure and support for outside projects like the East Side Access project, Hall reported.
