Police Arrest 2 Suspects In Violent East Hills Robbery

EAST HILL, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A man and woman have been arrested in connection with a robbery in Nassau County.

Patricia Bertone, 52, and Robert Gunsberg, 55, are accused of following the victim to her East Hills home where they allegedly threatened her with a knife, punched her in the face and robbed her of her jewelry.

"My wife is fine. We're very happy that they were caught," the victim's husband told WCBS 880's Sophia Hall. "It's a small community, everybody looks out for each other, and we're happy that we can now go on with our lives and don't have to deal with this anymore."

Police said Bertone is charged with robbery, assault and hindering the prosecution. Gunsberg is charged with robbery, assault and obstruction of breathing, police said.

Another crime in the neighborhood, a home invasion, remains unsolved.

Due to the recent crimes, the deputy mayor said a volunteer security committee was established to make the area even safer.
