Rangers, Panthers Swap Defensemen McIlrath, Kampfer

SUNRISE, Fla. (CBSNewYork/AP) — The New York Rangers dealt Dylan McIlrath to the Florida Panthers on Tuesday in exchange for Steven Kampfer and a conditional seventh-round selection in the 2018 NHL Draft.

Both players are defensemen who have appeared in one NHL game this season.

McIlrath was the No. 10 overall pick in the 2010 draft, and had two goals and two assists in 38 games with the Rangers. Kampfer has 134 games of NHL experience with Boston and Florida, scoring nine goals and adding 14 assists.

McIlrath, 24, took to Twitter to express his gratitude toward the Rangers.

"I'd like to thank the @NYRangers for giving me the opportunity to be a part of their first class organization!" he wrote.

"I want to thank the fans, coaches and especially my teammates for an amazing 6 years! Made memories that will last a life time.

"That being said, extremely excited to join the @FlaPanthers organization! Looking forward to this new journey!!"

Kamper posted on Twitter that he is "extremely excited to join the @NYRangers organization! Looking forward to big things!"
