Duane Reade Awning Buckles Under Weight Of Snow, Ice

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The weight of the snow and ice from the most recent winter storm that came through the Tri-State area created a dangerous situation in Union Square on Wednesday.

The heavy slush proved too much for the awning in front of a Duane Reade on 14th Street, CBS 2 reported.

The structure buckled under the weight of the thick slush, crashing onto the sidewalk below.

No one was injured by the awning as it fell, 1010 WINS' Carol D'Auria reported.

Crews blocked off the area Wednesday afternoon while they worked on repairs, CBS 2 reported.

The crumpled awning was loaded onto a truck to be towed away, D'Auria reported.
