Drivers Beware: Crews Close Lanes On Queens-Bound Throgs Neck Bridge

THROGS NECK, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Better budget extra time if you're planning on crossing the Throgs Neck Bridge this weekend.

Several Queens-bound lanes closed at 10 p.m. Friday and will not reopen until Monday at 5 a.m., CBS 2 reported.

The closings are expected to take place for seven weekends over the course of this summer due to construction work.

Crews are in the process of sandblasting the steel deck, before they will repave the roadway.

Between 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. two of the three Queens-bound lanes will be closed. Two lanes will remain open during weekend daytime hours.

The lane closures mean more traffic should be expected on alternate routes such as the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge or the Bronx-Whitestone Bridge. Both bridges will have three lanes open heading into Queens.

Once the work is finished, drivers should notice a smoother, more even riding surface.
