Driver Arrested After Car Slams Into Scaffolding On East Side

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- There was a messy scene on the East Side of Manhattan early Friday when a car crashed into a scaffolding structure which appeared to collapse onto the street.

It happened near East 58th Street and Third Avenue around 4 a.m. The street was closed while crews were cleaning up the mess.

Police said the driver was speeding when he crashed.

One witness told CBS2 it looked like the driver was racing another car and lost control, just missing a pedestrian under the scaffolding.

The driver suffered minor injuries and was arrested for driving with a suspended license, according to police.
