Dozens Of Kids Compete For Walk-On Role In 'Grinch' Musical

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The calendar says October, but it was beginning to look a lot like Christmas at Madison Square Garden on Thursday.

As WCBS 880's Marla Diamond reported, dozens of children took part in a contest for a walk-on role in "Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas! The Musical."

The chance at landing the part and to see their names on the MSG marquee drew dozens of children dressed as Whos from Whoville, including 6-year-old Justin, of Levittown, Long Island, who had a pretty good understanding of the Grinch.

"He's angry at the Whos because he hates all the noise," Justin explained.

The Grinch himself served as one of the judges -- and made no promises to be nice to the kids.

"Well, hopefully some of them would leave screaming, so I get to be here for less time," the Grinch said.

The musical, which was first performed on Broadway, begins a limited run Dec. 5 at Madison Square Garden.
