Door-To-Door Mail Delivery Could Soon Be Replaced By 'Cluster Boxes'

NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- Door-to-door mail delivery could become a thing of the past. A U.S. House committee approved a bill that would change delivery to "cluster box" pick-ups.

It would mean that hundreds of neighbors would pick up their mail at a centralized location.

The move would convert 15 million addresses over the next decade resulting in an anticipated savings of $2 billion a year.

The postal service lost $1.9 billion in the first three months of 2014.
