"After the speech I heard the other night, I would think he would be one hell of a candidate. I would have to know more about what he would do. Man, he would be one heck of a candidate," former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani said.

To Republicans tired of Mayor Bill de Blasio, Trump Jr. is someone who gives them hope.

"I believe somebody has to replace Bill de Blasio," Giuliani said. "If someone doesn't, the city is going to decline as its declined already. Murder went up 10 percent last year."

New York state Sen. Terrence Murphy said, "After seeing what he's done here for his family, that's an outstanding possibility."

While Trump Jr. is appealing – he would probably have no difficulty raising money and he has high name recognition – some question whether he is ready for the job.

"He's a very extraordinary young man. I just think that the mayoralty of the city of New York for someone who would be a novice would be a big stretch," Brooklyn delegate Craig Eaton said. "I think he's a very, very good businessman, but mayor of New York City is a very, very tough job."

New York Republicans are actively looking for someone to run against de Blasio.
