NJ Pet Grooming Business Faces Civil Charges After Dog Paralyzed

CRANFORD, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A beloved family dog went into a New Jersey business to be groomed and left paralyzed, the New Jersey SPCA charges.

Ozzie, a 6-year-old terrier, was dropped off at Furever Friends in Cranford, the SPCA said. When his owners picked him up, they were told the dog injured his back or broke his leg, WCBS 880's Jim Smith reported.

A veterinarian later determined Ozzie was paralyzed so severely he had to be put down.

The business has been hit with civil summonses from the SPCA, including charges of causing death to an animal. The penalties range up to $7,000 in fines.

The case will be heard next month in municipal court.
