Dog Alerts Sleeping Family To House Fire In Huntington
HUNTINGTON, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A family dog is being credited with helping to save a couple and their son from a raging house fire on Long Island early Monday morning.
The Huntington Fire Department said the dog alerted the sleeping family after the blaze broke out around 1:40 a.m. at the home on Dumbarton Drive.
When firefighters, heavy smoke and flames were seen shooting through the roof, fire officials said.
Nearly 50 firefighters from several departments battle the fire. It was brought under control more than an hour later, but crews remained on the scene until about 4 a.m. putting out hot spots, officials said.
No one was injured.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
