Mets Designate Dillon Gee For Assignment
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- It looks like the Dillon Gee era with the Mets may soon be over.
The club designated the veteran right-hander for assignment on Monday and will attempt to trade him over the next week. If a taker is not found, Gee will be put through waivers and then possibly sent down to Triple-A Las Vegas.
Gee allowed eight runs over 3 2/3 innings on Sunday in the Mets' 10-8 win over Atlanta at Citi Field, and is 0-3 with a 5.90 ERA in eight appearances, including seven starts, this season, as he's struggled to find a niche on a crowded staff.

Thought to be the odd man out of the rotation to begin the season, Gee joined the group when right-hander Zack Wheeler was lost for the season due to Tommy John surgery. However, a groin injury landed Gee on the disabled list in early May and when he returned on June 3 he was briefly part of a short-lived six-man rotation. along with youngster Noah Syndergaard. But Gee struggled, posting a 12.54 ERA in three appearances since, spanning 9 1/3 innings.
For his career, the 29-year-old right-hander is 40-37 with a 4.03 ERA in 114 appearances, including 11o starts.
Gee has roughly $3.24 million left on his contract this season.
The Mets called up 22-year-old right-hander Akeel Morris from Class A St. Lucie.
