Dick Vermeil Blasts Gov. Christie For His Behavior At Eagles' Game

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Eagles fans are not very happy with New Jersey Governor Chris Christie right now.

Neither is former Eagles head coach Dick Vermeil.

This past Sunday, during the Cowboys' victory over Philly at Lincoln Financial Field, the Governor was spotted rooting on the Cowboys in team owner Jerry Jones' box.

"How about Governor Christie?" Vermeil told Angelo Cataldi and the 94WIP Morning Show on Friday morning. "I was pissed, I'll tell you that. My wife and I looked at each other. I said, 'How dumb can a governor be?' You gotta realize that this community, New Jersey community, there are a ton of fans.

"But you know there are other teams around; New York Giants also, Pittsburgh Steelers, all these teams right there."

Christie has admitted for years that he's a lifelong Cowboys fan, and he has no intention of toning it down due to public pressure.

Vermeil doesn't mind that Christie roots for Dallas, but he takes offense at his actions and thinks they're foolish.

"I didn't mind him sitting next to (Jerry Jones)," Vermeil told the radio station. "OK, you can tolerate that. But when they start high-fiving when something went bad against the Eagles, that really bothered me. I have a real good friend that knows (Christie) well.

"I called him and I talked to him. I said, 'You better give that guy an IQ check.' I thought, politically, it was a stupid thing to do."

The Governor revealed on Thursday that he will travel to Texas this week to root for his beloved Cowboys when they take on the Colts on Sunday.
