Devils To Honor Prep Player Who Died While Spear Fishing

NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) — The New Jersey Devils are set to remember a prep school hockey player who died while spear fishing earlier this year.

Jeffery Hoens. 17, of Westfield, died in July while open diving and spear fishing in the Shark River Inlet at the Jersey shore.

Hoens was a goaltender for the St. Peter's Prep hockey team in Jersey City.

The Devils will honor Hoens before Friday night's game against the Detroit Red Wings.

Some of the money from Friday night's ticket sales will go to a scholarship fund created in Hoens' memory.
