Devils Trade Gelinas To Avalanche For 3rd Round Pick

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Eric Gelinas will get a fresh start in Colorado.

The Devils traded the veteran defenseman to the Avalanche on Monday for a third-round draft pick in 2017.

Gelinas had one goal, five assists and 16 penalty minutes in 34 games this season for New Jersey. He had been scratched in the Devils' nine previous games.

A former second-round pick of the Devils in 2009, Gelinas had 54 points in 156 NHL games. The 6-foot-4, 215 pounder is signed through next season at $1.575 million.

The Devils entered play Monday in 10th place in the Eastern Conference, three points out of the final playoff berth with 19 games to play.
