Harvard Bound Valedictorian Banned From Delivering Address At Lodi H.S. Graduation

LODI, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- There was a protest at Lodi High School and it continued on twitter under #LetDevanSpeak, many said that as valedictorian Devan Solanki should be allowed to give the traditional speech at graduation.

At this point it doesn't look he'll even be going, 1010 WINS' Holli Haerr reported.

"I think it's unfair because he worked hard his whole four years of high school," Kevin Taylor said.

Taylor said he didn't think it was fair that the Harvard bound student was being treated like this, reportedly because Solanki has criticized teachers in the past.

Solanki told NJ.com that he was banned from graduation and suspended for 5 days. He apparently told a guidance counselor that he wanted to resolve the speech issue peacefully, his comments were interpreted as a threat.

The school district did not comment on the situation.
