Deputy Schools Superintendent Accused Of Sexual Misconduct With Teen Boy

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A deputy New York City schools superintendent was accused Wednesday of sexual misconduct with a 14-year-old boy, police sources said Wednesday evening.

John DiFiore, 53, was arrested in his Chelsea apartment on Tuesday, police sources told CBS2.

DiFiore is a deputy superintendent at the Office of Safety and Youth Development at Department of Education headquarters, police sources said. He was charged with three counts each of acting in a manner injurious to a child and sexual conduct with a child under 17.

Police sources alleged there were three incidents involving the same boy, a student at Clinton Junior High School at 425 W. 33rd St. He allegedly kissed the boy on May 1 and May 29, and allegedly exposed himself to the boy and sexually abused him on June 6, sources said.

The victim reported the incidents to police on Tuesday, source said. There were believed to be witnesses to at least one of the incidents, sources said.

DiFiore supported administrative work and curriculum development in the office in his deputy superintendent position, according to the DOE. He had previously worked at J.H.S. 078 Roy H. Mann in Brooklyn from 1987 to 2003 – the last four of those years as principal, the DOE said.

"While this alleged behavior is not school-related, it is deeply disturbing and reprehensible. Mr. DiFiore will not be in contact with any students," DOE spokeswoman Devora Kaye said in a statement.

DiFiore was removed from his post, and was reassigned to a position where he will have "absolutely" no contact with students pending the resolution of the case, the DOE said.
