Dense Fog Advisory In Effect For Parts Of Tri-State Area

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The Tri-State Area was under a thick soup of fog early Thursday, prompting a dense fog advisory for some areas.

The advisory was in effect until 10 a.m. Thursday for Nassau and Suffolk counties, coastal Connecticut, and parts of central and southern New Jersey.

Visibilities could drop to 0.25 miles or less in some areas, the National Weather Service warned.

Anyone driving was advised to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and leave plenty of distance in case a sudden stop is needed.

CBS 2's Lonnie Quinn also warned the temperatures will drop below the freezing mark as the fog hovers, prompting possible concerns about black ice on the road.

Snow flurries were also expected during the day Thursday, Quinn reported.
