Demonstrators: NYPD Officer Peter Liang Being Unfairly Prosecuted In Brooklyn Shooting

NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- It was a different view of justice from last year's protest.

Demonstrators on Sunday said NYPD Officer Peter Liang is an easy target, being prosecuted unfairly to quiet public anger.

Brooklyn District Attorney Ken Thompson said Liang made "a deadly mistake" when he fired a shot that killed Akai Gurley in a dark Brooklyn stairwell.

Michelle from Westbury said the shooting, which took place in the Pink Houses in East New York, should not have resulted in an indictment.

"Tragic accident, he's not supposed to be charged with the charges brought by the Brooklyn DA," she told 1010 WINS' Roger Stern.

Liang faces up to 15 years on the most serious charge of manslaughter.
