Defense Shuts Down Offense In Jets Scrimmage

CORTLAND, N.Y. (AP) -- Geno Smith and Michael Vick failed to get the New York Jets into the end zone Saturday night as the defense shut down the offense in the team's scrimmage at the SUNY Cortland Stadium Complex.

Smith, looking to retain the starting job, finished 7 of 14 for 84 yards and had two passes nearly intercepted and two others dropped by receivers. Vick, expected to back up Smith or step in if he falters, was 7 of 13 for 47 yards and also ran for 35 yards.

Greg Salas, trying to win a roster spot, had five catches for 54 yards, and Stephen Hill had a 41-yard reception on a throw from Smith.

Rex Ryan's defense had an impressive goal-line stand, capped by Garrett McIntyre's sack on fourth down.
