Decomposing Body Found In Queens Park

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The body of a female woman was found badly decomposed in a Queens park Tuesday morning, the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation confirmed.

Police said they received a call from a Parks Department worker who discovered the body around 10 a.m. at Little Bay Park near Utopia Parkway and 14th Avenue while preparing the area for an event to be held Wednesday.

A man who wished to be identified as Paul told WCBS 880's Monica Miller the relatively quiet neighborhood isn't used to police activity.

"It's a nice area. We usually don't have nothing (sic) like this here," Paul said. "Four years ago they started putting trees here and nobody could come here. But I think this is what brings the element, you know. It's a wooded area. People can do whatever they want."

Another resident, James, said he stopped his car when he saw the Medical Examiner's van and police cars.

"It's something out of like CSI on TV. Something like this isn't something very usual for the area," James said.

The Parks Department said the Medical Examiner's office is in possession of the body and is investigating.
