Deal, N.J. Police Captain Killed In Ocean Township Crash

DEAL, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A Deal, New Jersey police captain was killed early Saturday when he lost control of his vehicle on an Ocean Township highway.

Ocean Township police responded at 12:33 a.m. after the crash on State Highway 71 southbound, north of Perrine Avenue.

Earl B. Alexander IV, 38, of Deal, had been driving the 2007 Acura TSX involved in the crash, police said.

Police believe Alexander lost control of his car and it left the roadway, flipped on his side, and struck a utility pole. He was alone in the vehicle at the time, police said.

Alexander, who was a Deal police captain, was killed in the crash, police said.

The collision was under investigation by the Ocean Township police Traffic Safety Bureau and the Monmouth County Serious Collision Response Team.
