Police: Man chased into deli, shot and killed in Brooklyn

Man shot, killed inside Brooklyn deli

NEW YORK - There's been more gun violence in New York City.

Police are searching for a suspect after a man was shot and killed inside a deli in Crown Heights, Brooklyn.

CBS2's Kiran Dhillon spoke with some of the victim's devastated friends.

Surveillance video shows the moments after a deadly shooting inside of a Crown Heights deli that took the life of 30 year old Adiyb Ramkissoon.

Several people can be seen on the sidewalk before police officers flood the scene.

"It's crazy. It's tragic," one person said.

Hours after the shooting, Ramkissoon's friends lit candles outside the deli to pay their respects. They say he was a loving friend, son, brother and father to a 14 year old girl.

"He was a cool dude. Cool, respectful," one person said.

"It's hard. Senseless violence. Senseless violence. Crazy," said another.

The shooting happened around 11:30 p.m. inside the deli at the corner of Troy Avenue and St John's Place.

Police say Ramkissoon was chased into the store by a suspect before he was killed.

His friend says the violence began after a game of cards turned dark.

"Somebody was cheating. Words were exchanged. The guy left the store and came back with a gun," one person said.

One woman who didn't want to be identified says she heard the gunshots from her apartment.

"I heard several really loud bangs and I didn't really read too much into to it, because there's usually car backfiring in the area, but this particular area I've been seeing a lot lately and I thought it's probably better to look," she said.

Sources tell us the victim was shot multiple times in the torso. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Sources add Ramkissoon was not affiliated with any gangs but police say he did have several prior arrests, including ones for narcotics and robbery.

For many neighbors, the violence at the popular deli hits too close to home.

"Sometimes at night, I do go in at night and thinking OMG, I could have been in there makes me feel uneasy," one neighbor said.

Right now, police say they are still investigating a potential motive for the shooting.
