Mayor De Blasio Undaunted By Cancellation Of Iowa Presidential Forum
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A day after his Progressive Agenda Committee canceled its presidential forum in Iowa, Mayor Bill de Blasio is vowing to keep fighting against income inequality.
The organization was supposed to hold a forum for presidential candidates to discuss income inequality in the nation on Dec. 6.
"The forum was one of many ideas and many approaches. It didn't work because we reached out to the candidates and they weren't willing to participate," de Blasio explained.
But the mayor is undaunted, saying income inequality remains the most important challenge facing America.
"We've got to change the debate, change the political realities so we can get real changes in Washington that will benefit 8.5 million people here," de Blasio said.
On Tuesday, Executive Director Geri Prado said in a statement that the group will instead channel its energy into a plan that promotes "the voices of everyday people to impact candidates, leaders, and elected officials at every level of government."
