De Blasio, Cuomo Fire Back At Jeb Bush Following Gun Tweet

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Mayor Bill de Blasio and Gov. Andrew Cuomo are weighing in on former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush's gun tweet.

The Republican presidential candidate was ridiculed and mocked on social media Tuesday after posting the word "America" with an image of a gun that had "Gov. Jeb Bush" engraved on it to Twitter.

De Blasio joined in on Wednesday, posting a picture of a pastrami sandwich from Carnegie Deli with the caption "America."

Cuomo sounded off on the issue telling reporters, "To say that a handgun is America, I mean, what are you trying to say? You're really playing to people's fears in the worst sense."

"It's a false fear that they raise to motivate their voting public and I think it does a disservice to everyone," Cuomo added.

Bush said he got the weapon after touring a gun manufacturing facility.

"The purpose was we went to a gun manufacturing facility where lots of jobs are created, high-wage jobs. And I received a gun and I was honored to have it," Bush said, according to The Hill.

The latest CBS News Battleground Tracker Poll shows Bush on polling at 6 percent ahead of South Carolina's Republican primary.
