David Lim, PANYNJ Officer & 9/11 Survivor, To Retire Thursday

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A first responder who survived the Sept. 11 attacks will report for his final roll call Thursday.

Port Authority Police Lt. David Lim is one of only 16 survivors of the collapse of the North Tower of the World Trade Center.

On 9/11, Lim was on duty in the North Tower when it collapsed at 10:28 a.m. in 11 seconds, killing everyone still alive on upper floors and scores of first responders.

Incredibly, Lim, 12 firefighters and three civilians who were climbing down Stairwell B of the North Tower survived.

Lim's canine partner, Sirius, perished in the collapse.

Lim is retiring after a 34-year-career of dedicated service to the Port Authority of New York New Jersey, where he most recently served as a member of the PAPD elite K-9 unit patrolling LaGuardia Airport.

After the final roll call, Lim will  participate in a ceremonial walk-out at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday at LaGuardia Airport, Building 137.
