DA: NYC Employee Shot Dead In Ulster County Office

KINGSTON, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- An employee of New York City's Department of Environmental Protection was shot to death Monday and a co-worker is in police custody, the Ulster County prosecutor said.

District Attorney Holley Carnright told reporters Monday that both the gunman and male victim worked at the DEP's upstate offices in Kingston, where the shooting took place shortly before 7 a.m. He said the weapon was a handgun.

Kingston Police identified the victim as 33-year-old Aron Thomas of Olivebridge. The name of the suspect wasn't initially released. Carnright said formal charges will be filed later Monday.

A spokesman for the DEP didn't return a call seeking comment.

The DEP offices in downtown Kingston house employees who oversee the city's upstate reservoirs.
