Cyclist Struck, Killed By Bus In Midtown

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - A bicyclist was killed Tuesday morning after a collision with an MTA bus in Midtown.

It happened at the intersection of Fifth Avenue and 59th Street.

The MTA says it appears the 19-year-old made contact with the back of the BxM10 bus.

The bus driver remained at the scene.

Police are investigating.

The MTA released the following statement: "This is a tragic incident – our hearts go out to the family of the bicyclist and we're cooperating fully with the NYPD which is leading an investigation."

The bicyclist's identity is being withheld pending notification of the family.

Last year in New York City, 29 cyclists were killed.
