Brooklyn DA: Assistant DA Struck And Killed By Bus Early Monday

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A senior assistant district attorney in Brooklyn was killed when she was struck by a bus while riding her bicycle in Williamsburg early Monday morning.

Brooklyn DA Eric Gonzalez confirmed the death of 35-year-old Sarah Pitts in a post on Twitter. She joined the DA's office two years ago.

Police said Pitts was struck by a charter bus at around 12:30 a.m. at Whythe Avenue and Williamsburg Street.

The bus remained at the scene.

In a statement on Twitter, Gonzalez called Pitts "a brilliant and compassionate lawyer dedicated to seeking justice."
