Cyber Monday: Experts Share Online Shopping Secrets

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Natalia Rosario and her family found great in-store deals this weekend, but are waiting until Cyber Monday to make their big purchase -- an Xbox.

"I've been stalking Amazon for a while and the lowest I've seen them so far is $325," Rosario said. "So hopefully tomorrow they'll drop to maybe $300."

Online sales were up 14 percent on Black Friday compared to last year, but analysts are predicting Cyber Monday to be the biggest e-commerce sales day of the year, CBS2's Matt Kozar reported.

"Shopping online is a lot less hassle, a lot less people you have to deal with," Randy Hernandez, a shopper, said.

Financial advisor Nahum Daniels says there are tricks that can save online shoppers money.

"It's important to understand how to negotiate the very best price we can," Daniels said.

After getting to the final stage of a purchase that includes reviewing payment information, Daniels suggests not clicking "buy."

Instead, close the browser.

Daniel says a retailer tracking a shopper's behavior may email coupons that could lead to more savings.

"If you have the patience to wait a couple of days, and sometimes it only takes a couple of hours," Daniels. "You might really get that final incentive which will get you to that rock bottom price."

Daniels says shoppers should always search for coupons -- and some online merchants allow the use of multiple coupons.

Despite the explosion in e-commerce, some are worried about cyber security and prefer shopping for presents the old-fashioned way.

"I prefer to buy in the stores and cash," Mercedes Farjdo, a shopper, said.
