Cuomo Tours Clean-Up Effort Near Indian Point Nuclear Plant

BUCHANAN, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo took a boat tour Sunday to survey the clean-up effort near the Indian Point Nuclear Plant.

On Friday, lubricating oil used at the plant spilled into a canal that drains into the Hudson River.

Booms were then set up to block the oil from getting to the river.

The governor says no oil was spotted during his tour of the Hudson.

Entergy, the plant's owner, said the oil is not radioactive and leaked after a problem with a cooling turbine.

The governor noted there have been 40 extraordinary incidents at the plant in the last five years.

"I live in Westchester. I raised three children in Westchester, and there are many nights I thought about what would happen, God forbid, if something really went wrong at Indian Point," Cuomo said.

This latest incident is another reminder why Cuomo has been calling for the plant to be shut down for years, WCBS 880's John Metaxas reported.
