Cuomo, Astorino Ramp Up Campaigning As Election Day Nears

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The New York gubernatorial race is in its final stretch as Election Day approaches.

Both Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Republican challenger Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino spent the day trying to encourage people to get out and vote.

Cuomo was in West Haverstraw with Rep. Nita Lowey.

"Look at the state four years later. We went from a $10 billion dollar deficit to a $4 billion dollar surplus," Cuomo said. "We had 800,000 unemployed when we walked in the door -- largest number of unemployed people since the great depression. Today we have 500,000 new jobs."

Meanwhile Astorino made an appearance at a Baptist church in New Rochelle.

"A lot of times your party and your values don't always match up, and I think there are a lot of things we agree on. And I think if we come here on Sunday, then we need to vote our values on Tuesday," Astorino said.

Astorino's event had to be delayed by half an hour because the church pastor was at another event endorsing Cuomo, CBS2 reported.
