Cuba Travel Services Offering First Direct Charter Flights Since Lifted Travel Ban
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - Cuba Travel Services said it is offering the first regularly scheduled direct charter flights since President Barack Obama restored diplomatic relations.
However, CBS News Travel Editor Peter Greenberg said the trips still need to the approval of the United States government.
"If you are part of a people-to-people, religious, educational, approved medical trip, then you can be a part of a charter flight," Greenberg told WCBS 880's Monica Miller.
Greenberg said Americans can't use their credit cards or travelers checks in the Caribbean country, but that's about to change.
"The minute that MasterCard, Visa, America Express get up and running to allow institutions in Cuba to accept U.S. based credit cards for payment, then all bets are off. It's going to happen much, much faster than you expect," Greenberg said.
