Connecticut Gov. Malloy Appoints New DMV Commissioner Amid Issues

WETHERSFIELD, Conn. (CBSNewYork) -- The Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles long-plagued by problems and lengthy wait times will now be lead by Michael Bzdyra.

Bzdrya now holds the position of deputy commissioner, part of the leadership under which the DMV suffered serious problems resulting in such very long wait times.

State Rep. Gail Lavielle of Wilton, a member of the transportation committee which has overseen the problems there, is expressing some disappointment.

"I'm surprised that the governor would elect to keep someone who has been a senior member of the management team because the problems have been so severe," Wilton told WCBS 880's Fran Schneidau.

Gov. Dannel Malloy did name someone from the private sector as deputy commissioner, Judeen Wrinn.

Both nominees will takeover at the DMV in March.
