Coast Guard Searches For Woman Missing From Cruise Ship Near Bahamas

MIAMI (CBSNewYork) -- A search was underway Wednesday, for an Interlaken, N.Y. woman who went overboard from a cruise ship.

As CBS News reported, the Coast Guard said 32-year-old Rina Patel fell from the 11th deck of the Carnival Ecstacy at 2:30 a.m. as the ship was passing the island of Grand Bahama.

Carnival Cruise Line said she apparently jumped overboard, CBS News reported.

Patel was said to be 'wearing a white dress with pink floral.'

In a statement, Carnival said the crew began its search, and emergency procedures were immediately initiated.

The Coast Guard added two ships and aircraft to the search taking place 27 miles southwest of Freeport on Grand Bahama.

The ship was en route to Charleston, South Carolina from Nassau, Bahamas at the time. It was released to resume traveling at 9 a.m.
