LI Woman's Home Center Of Craigslist Scam

GREENPORT, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A Long Island woman was shocked to find out her house was for rent on Craigslist -- when she never put the ad on the website.

Joyce Culver said her name and address for her home in Greenport was on the ad, saying her home was up for rent for $1,500 a month.

"The thing that really got me was that they were uok

sing my full name and with my middle initial to answer inquiries," Culver said.

At least two people were scammed after being asked to wire money to a bank account.

"I can't stand the idea that a 20-year-old young woman and her boyfriend of 23 were scammed out of the $1500 by somebody in Illinois," Culver said.

To avoid being scammed, make sure you meet with the homeowner or have a real estate agent show you the rental before putting down money.
