Funeral Home Director: Connecticut Couple Steals Son's Ashes

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (CBSNewYork) -- A Connecticut couple was caught on camera allegedly stealing the cremated remains of their baby son.

It happened last week at the Luz de Paz Funeral Home in Bridgeport.

The funeral home director said he thought the couple was there to pay off their balance, but the father is seen on surveillance video going to a cabinet, holding his son's ashes and then taking off, CBS 2 reported.

"He pulls the ashes out and then comes upstairs, tells his girlfriend that he's got the ashes and they both run out the door," said director Edgar Rodriguez. "Do they truly find closure knowing that they actually stole the ashes?"

Rodriguez said the couple will not be able to take the ashes to their native Puerto Rico without proper documentation.

He said the couple owed him less than $1,000 and he had offered to reduce the price.
