Council Member Says Proposed Fire Safety Legislation Could Save Lives

NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- A City Council member plans to call for new fire safety measures on Monday.

Council member Corey Johnson will propose legislation that will ensure that first responders and building management are able to communicate with residents during emergencies, CBS 2 reported.

The proposal comes in the wake of a three-alarm blaze in Hell's Kitchen that took the life of Daniel McClung and critically injured his husband.

Johnson says that the measure will help save lives.
