LI Man Awaiting Sentencing In Drag Racing Crash Back In Court
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A Long Island man awaiting sentencing after a 2014 drag racing crash that killed five people is back in court Friday.
Cory Gloe, 19, was arrested at a traffic stop in Farmingdale after he was found in a car with a small bag of marijurana and a "gravity knife," according to Nassau County police. Gloe was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon in connection to the incident.
This comes a week after Gloe was offered a six-month plea deal in connection to the deaths of 17-year-old Tristan Richele and four others in a drag-racing crash in 2014.
Gloe stared as the judge rescinded his promised sentence of six months in jail, WCBS 880's Sophia Hall reported. The judge spent time talking about sentencing guidelines and how the upcoming sentence would be full and fair.
"The bottom line here is that with the re-arrest, the defendant is now facing -- all options are open to the court," Nassau County Prosecutor Maureen McComick told WCBS 880.
Reichle and his passengers were killed when he lost control of his Nissan while driving down Conklin Street in Farmingdale, crossed into oncoming traffic and then hit a SUV. Prosecutors say Gloe challenged Richele to the race.
Prosecutors said Gloe left the scene of the accident in his own car and even though he didn't physically cause the crash, they believed he was at fault, CBS2 reported.
