Mayor: Sen. Booker Under Increased Security After Threat Against Family

NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) – U.S. Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) is under increased security after someone threatened to kill him and his family.

Mayor Ras Baraka said local police were guarding his Newark home Saturday as a precaution.

Federal agents were also helping provide the additional protection.

While mayor of Newark, Booker was under 24-hour police protection because of threats made against him. As senator, the spotlight has been on him recently as he's campaigned for Democrat Doug Jones in the bitter Alabama Senate Race.

Additionally, Booker has called on President Trump to resign due to sex assault allegations several women have made against the president.

Details surrounding the exact nature of the threat have not been revealed, which law enforcement forces say isn't unusual.
