Off-Duty Correction Officer Shot In Queens Robbery

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- An off-duty New York City correction officer is in stable condition after being shot during a robbery in Queens early Monday morning, police said.

The 40-year-old victim was walking on 113th Avenue in St. Albans just after midnight when he was approached by two men, one of whom shot him in the leg, police said. They made off with the officer's chain.

The correction officer opened fire on the suspects but missed, cops told WCBS 880.They fled in a silver Audi.

The victim was taken to Jamaica Hospital for treatment.
