Cops: Suspect Sought For Series Of Robberies In Manhattan
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police are looking for a suspect who they said is wanted in connection with a series of commercial robberies in Manhattan.
In each case, police said the suspect walks into grocery stores, newsstands or other shops, pulls out a gun, ties up the employees and then takes off with cash, cigarettes, phone cards or lottery tickets.
The first incident happened back on Nov. 27 when cops said he stole $2,000 in cash, $1,000 in New York State Lotto scratch off tickets and $500 in prepaid phone cards from a store on Lexington Avenue.
Then on Dec. 3, police said he stole about $1,000 from a grocery store on the Upper West Side.
More than a month later on Jan. 30, police said he stole more than $4,000 from a newsstand.
The latest incident happened on Feb. 15. Police said he made off with $2,000 in cash and cigarettes from Mike's Smoke Shop on First Avenue.
The suspect is described as a white male between 40 and 50 years old, about 5-foot-8 with a medium build. He was last seen wearing a black Chicago White Sox baseball hat with the word CHICAGO printed across the front.
Police released surveillance images from the incident in January as well as a sketch of the suspect.
