Cops: Pedestrian Fatally Struck By Hit-And-Run Driver In Long Island City

NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- Police are looking for an alleged hit-and-run driver who fatally struck a man in Queens on Friday night.

According to officials, police responded to a call of a pedestrian struck on Northern Boulevard and 41st Avenue in Long Island City and found a 64-year-old man unconscious and unresponsive with severe head trauma and a broken leg.

First responders took the victim, identified by police as Kumar Ragunath, to Elmhurst General Hospital.

Ragunath succumbed to his injuries on Saturday, police said.

Investigators said they believe a dark-colored Chevy Blazer had been traveling in the right lane of westbound Northern Boulevard when it struck Ragunath, who had been attempting to cross the road outside of a marked crosswalk.

After striking Ragunath, the vehicle fled heading westbound, police said.

So far there have been no arrests in connection with the incident, which is under investigation by the NYPD's Highway Patrol Collision Investigation Squad.
