Cops: Man Brandished Gun, Demanded Cash From Livery Cab Drivers In Upper Manhattan

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The NYPD has asked the public for help in tracking down a man wanted in connection with a pair of livery cab robberies that took place in Upper Manhattan.

Shortly after 11 p.m. on Friday, July 18, the suspect entered a livery cab in the vicinity of West 176th Street and University Avenue in the Bronx, and asked to be taken to West 149th Street and the Harlem River Drive in West Harlem. The suspect then demanded that the driver stop in front of 323 Edgecombe Ave., brandished a firearm, and demanded money, police said.

The suspect fled on foot with $87 and an iPhone. The victim was not injured.

At 10 a.m. this past Tuesday, the suspect entered a livery cab at the corner of University Avenue and East Tremont Avenue in the Bronx. He then asked to be taken to West 149th Street and Edgecombe Avenue in Harlem. Upon arriving, once more in the vicinity of 323 Edgecombe Ave., the suspect once again brandished a firearm and demanded money, police said.

The suspect eventually fled the scene without taking any money, the victim was not injured.

The suspect has been described as a black male in his 30s. He is 5'8", 180 pounds and was last seen wearing sunglasses, a hat, and a t-shirt.
